Website content - Who Knew?!

1. Content is queen. Think presentation and interaction. Good content appeals to people and search engines.
2. Reading light. Most scan and do not read web articles; at best, they are reading 25% slower than print. Endless copy without breaks is never read. Readers will bounce from an endless copy page immediately.
3. On-line content is less formal, has simple sentences and sometimes requires downloads.
4. Write to reach your audience. It can be informal and in the first person. Speak directly to your audience as a person.
5. Good toolbars tell readers what’s here, how to use the site and helps find things.
6. Since search engines look at the first 100-200 words of your site for content, your opening message should be to the point and well-structured. Most important point goes to the top, least important to the bottom.
7. 50% less word count in descriptions. You could say:” Please contact us if you have any questions about this products.” You should say:” Contact us. We’re here to help.”
8. Break up the page content in chunks with headings, bulleted lists and use graphics if needed.
9. Headings identify important content and also helps map the site.
10. Users only come back for new content. So, publish a blog, a newsletter and always publish on schedule.
Above all, do your research. Users have immediate demands and less time everyday so know what they want and need. Also, know what you want and need. Update continuously.
